I felt relieved to have said something instead of avoiding the question altogether My response was very noticeable and sounded insincere I responded with a cliché because I was uncomfortable with the question Someone asked me about the legacy I want to leave behindĪnd I simply smiled and said “I’d rather stay forever.” I was once asked how I’d like to be remembered He finds the task of leaving his mark too overwhelming and decides to just bow his head and leave out the back. He concludes that he’ll just exist, for that’s all he can do. The song ends with the narrator reflecting on the impossibility of leaving one’s mark on the world. He believes that all of this can change, though, and he holds onto the hope that he will someday wake up with a lion’s pride, knowing that he’s going to be okay. He suffers through each day hoping for the best, but he knows that leaving his mark on the world is a monumental task. The narrator then goes on to reflect on the fact that the fear of not leaving a significant impact is a heavy burden to bear. He mentions the possibility of his legacy being a song, some words he wrote, or a child he’ll never see, all of which scare him. This desire is met with fear, for he does not know what his legacy will be. He is expressing a desire to be remembered forever, to leave a lasting legacy. The narrator then goes on to say that he’d rather stay forever, even though this sentiment is a cliché. ![]() The opening line, “I was once asked how I’d like to be remembered,” immediately sets the tone for the song’s theme. ![]() The song is about the fear of being forgotten and not leaving a significant impact on the world.
